John Tommasini's big day at the plate in Beaver Fall Classic

The first opportunity for Bend Beaver baseball fans to get a glimpse at the 09 Oregon State team was in question throughout Friday night and Saturday morning as rainy weather put a damper on the Back 2 Bend event. Fortunately for the 349 fans that braved the iffy weather condtions, the sun peaked through the gray skies allowing autograph seekers and baseball enthusiasts to enjoy the afternoon.

Several position players from last year's OSU team have moved on. The Beavers had the 12th best recruiting class in the nation and some of the new guys had impressive outings at Vince Genna stadium on Saturday. Freshman 3rd baseman Carter Bell from British Columbia, made a few outstanding plays at 3rd base. Junior College transfer Stefan Romero from Tucson, Arizona hit a towering 2 run homer over the centerfield wall and Rob Folsom from Medford had a big 2 run double in the game. Team Black ended up winning the game over Team Orange 9-3.

Pat Casey and staff were able to watch all of their position players and 13 of their 17 pitchers see action on Saturday. Coach Casey mentioned that this game would not have been played in the Willamette valley due to the heavy rains over the past few days. The Beavers are considering coming back over to Bend later in October month if weather conditions prevent scrimmages in Corvalis.
