Bend Elks Baseball Club

Home stay families

Host Families needed for 2010 Bend Elks season
The Bend Elks Baseball Club relies on community support to sustain its operations. Host families are an important piece in connecting our players into the community.

This season we will be bringing in players from 8 different college baseball conferences thoughout the United States. Our primary geographic concentration of players is the west coast. We have players coming from several top ranked academic schools such as Cal Berkeley, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, St Mary's College, University of San Francisco, Gonzaga, University of Portland, Seattle University, Notre Dame, Oregon, Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, George Fox, San Jose State, Pacific Lutheran, Western Oregon and Chemeketa.

What we need from a host family
A room, a few meals a day when the team is at home is what the players are looking for. The Elks are on the road about 30 days in the summer, so the summer is not too overwhelming. Show them where the pantry is, they can make their own meals.

If at all possible, taking in 2 players is actually easier as the players like to travel in pairs and we usually bring in 2 players from each college team. They can entertain each other, too.

Most players will bring their own car. We will place players with cars with players without cars so the host family does not have to provide transportation to and from the ball park. Some host families live near other host families so we coordinate car pooling accordingly.

The Bend Elks provide each family with the following:

Season Tickets in the Preferred section for all home games

Complimentary Sunday BBQ meals for the host family.

Special recognition with season ending BBQ with the team.

Bat Boy opportunities if the host family has a Little Leaguer.

Who are Bend Elk baseball players?

Players that come to Bend are role model student athletes.

Players are assigned to Bend by their college coach, we don't take just anybody. Each player is required to carry a full load of school credits during the school year and they must achieve an acceptable grade point average to remain eligible.

Players understand they represent their University, their home town and their college baseball team. They sign a code of conduct when playing in our league.

Many of these players were drafted by Major League Baseball teams but opted to play for a college education first.

Building great relationships

Many home stay families have take a player each year.

Great relationships are built, especially families with youngsters.

Players have maintained lasting relationships with host families.
Some players have invited host families to their first pro game and weddings.
